D.A. Vásquez, PhD

Dr. Vásquez completed his PhD in Counseling Psychology with a doctoral minor in statistics at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. While there he completed 4 years of work as a graduate research assistant, including multiple doctoral level practica, at the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN) at the OU Health and Science Center in Oklahoma City, OK, which is a part of the Department of Pediatric, Section of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.

Dr. Vásquez completed his pre-doctoral internship/residency in clinical child psychology at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVRTC) and Department of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC.

Dr. Vásquez completed his postdoctoral fellowship in medical psychology and behavioral health technology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

Dr. Vásquez has received extensive training or certification in the following therapy modalities and diagnostic assessment techniques:

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy for depression and anxiety (ACT); Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD (CPT); Behavioral Activation for depression; Prolonged Exposure for PTSD (PE); Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT); Children with Sexual Behavior Problems treatment (CSBP); Juvenile Sex Offender Treatment (JSOT); Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule and Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADOS); Bayley Development Scales; Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Culturally Modified Trauma Focused Therapy (TF-CBT and CM-TFT); Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders; Neurocognitive Assessment in infectious disease; Family Reunification; and, Risk Reduction through Family Therapy (RRFT).

Dr. Vásquez is a 5th generation Laredoan with documented family ties to south Texas and northeast Mexico (especially Monterrey, Saltillo, Guerrero Viejo and Mier) existing since the 1600s. He is proud to serve Laredo as a licensed psychologist and is a practice associate of Guillermo Gonzalez, Jr., PhD. Dr. Vásquez is an active researcher and has published in areas related to trauma, family violence and dissociation, masculinity, and more recently immigration and border issues.
